As many know I consider my birthday a holiday and thus will celebrate it as long as possible. Since my actual birthday fell on a Tuesday, the celebration continued into the weekend...
Friday evening, we all met at Splitz for a few hours of bowling.
I should know by now that when you ask someone if they are good at anything and they answer with an 'okay/so-so' that they are actually very good! Thus, I put Elaine on the other team (Uyen, Damith, Elaine, Dan) and they almost beat us (Holly, Jim, Dave, and I). Unfortunately Holly and I were not very helpful, so many thanks to Jim and Dave for our wins!

Earlier in the week, I inquired with Hans' for some good places for Saturday night's dinner. However, none of the places he recommended really impressed me so I replied with 'I want spicy and tasty, like your cooking'. If I was serious, then so was he; a menu was created and Damith and I were off to purchase the ingredients.

We started with 'teasers' of pears with prosciutto, beef bulgogi tacos with habaneros, and Hans' mussels with bacon.
Of course Akki and Damith made it a bit of a game to see who could eat the most habaneros in the tacos. We all knew they were crazy, but they did offer great entertainment as they also enlisted Dave!
While nibbling on the teasers, we all helped Hans with the main dishes of Sake salmon with Shiitake mushrooms, Potato au gratin with apples, and Brussels sprouts with bacon. Once the meal was ready, we moved to our newly created 'dining' room and enjoyed the wonderful dishes Hans created.

After dinner, we all relaxed and I got to open my gifts. Thank you all for the gift cards to my three favorite stores. Now, we can go shopping! But, I think the gift I'll remember most is having Steffen at my party. As long as I have known him, he has missed my birthday due to work. This year was no exception, but he was at least able to join the party, straight from his flight back from Germany.
In case you hadn't noticed, there was a common ingredient...
Yes, that is chocolate covered bacon! It was surprisingly tasty and we enjoyed this with fresh fried dough and ice cream.
Once again, thank you Hans!
