| Less than two months to go! |
At about 4.75 pounds and almost 18 inches long from head to toe, Tic Tac is about the size of a cantaloupe. Research using fiber-optic scopes shows that her pupils constrict when exposed to bright lights. Both her central nervous system and her lungs continue to mature. She also recognizes and reacts to songs, to which Damith and Siobhan are enjoying. She clearly lets us know if she is liking (or not liking) a song they are singing or playing.
Baby girl continues to be very active and now has hiccups about twice a day, with the longest episode lasting over a minute. Earlier this week, I experienced the worst heartburn I have ever felt! We had enjoyed a wonderful dinner with the Millsers (nothing new in the meal) and I didn't start feeling any symptoms until the middle of the night. I was so uncomfortable! I immediately took some Tums and my heartburn medicine prescribed by the doctor, but it seemed to take FOREVER to kick in! The only position that offered a bit of relief was sitting upright in the glider, but then I couldn't fall asleep. Damith came in to check on me and offered a glass of milk. I don't know if it was the milk or the combo of it with the medicine, but within the next hour I was able to sleep. Unfortunately, it was 4:30 in the morning! Thank goodness Akki is staying with us and graciously took care of Siobhan so that Damith and I could get a few hours of additional sleep.
My sister Brandie thinks Tic Tac will have a fuller head of hair than Siobhan because my heartburn is more intense with this pregnancy. I wasn't sure I believed this 'wives tale' until I read that researchers at John Hopkins released a study showing that there is a correlation between heartburn and the hairiness of a newborn. Now I am anxious to find out how hairy Tic Tac is!
My tummy measured 34 cm at this week's OB appointment, and over the last two weeks, I have only gained half a pound. During this visit, the nurse pricked my finger to test my iron levels once again and I am still in the normal/safe range!
I also got my Tdap vaccine during the visit as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that women get the Tdap vaccine during each pregnancy regardless of when they last had the shot. The Tdap vaccine offers protection from three serious diseases: tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). By getting the vaccine while pregnant, I am passing on antibodies to help protect baby girl from catching the disease from others as she won't receive her first Tdap vaccine until she is two months old.
As of yesterday, my belly button has now become flat. But with the skin stretching, that area is so sensitive now! I don't recall it being this sensitive with Siobhan. Thank goodness for Vitamin E!
